A review by Fernando Ortega. Debloater is a very handy application that can be used to disable unwanted processes and apps that are installed on an Android device such as a mobile phone or tablet. The program’s utility can’t be minimized. It gives you a quick and easy way to disable apps that came installed with your phone that the manufacturer has made it near impossible to disable or remove — often leading to increased battery life and potential privacy concerns, especially with apps like Twitter, WhatsApp and Facebook.
It’s also able to disable Google apps. The main layout of Debloater is pretty straightforward, providing a list of applications that are currently installed on an Android device. Each item has a checkbox beside it and once checked, you can use the program to block usage of the application by clicking the Apply button. If something goes wrong, you can also select all applications and UnBlock All Packages with ease. In terms of using the program, it doesn’t include any other features to speak of apart from displaying the phone model and serial number at the bottom of the screen.
Note that this application can’t necessarily block everything, depending on the root status of the phone, the installed version of Android and the root status of the device. All in all, it’s a pretty useful application that can completely remove bloat from Android phones and tablets. Debloater 4. We have tested Debloater 4. We certify that this program is clean of viruses, malware and trojans. Screenshots of Debloater 5.

Modern UI, 3. Update to Windows For more information about a option, place your mouse cursor over the radiobutton for a ToolTip. A ToolTip is a balloon message popup that shows when you rest your mouse cursor over a radiobutton.
ToolTip in English. You can directly run the PowerShell script from the program after creating your script. OR save the PowerShell script as whatever you wish in the same directory with the other files and then run it using the following commands.
Notice the sections and how a comma and double quotes separate them. The last option in each section does not have a comma. Add or substract from the set. Therefore the program is end-user maintainable, fixable and shareable. We are trying to improve it. Check Future Updates. The options are arranged in different tabs and there is a Default preset in the Options menu so you can debloat a set of options. You can choose the Default preset first and then add your own choices.
There are ToolTips balloon message popups for detailed info for each label and option. There is language selection for ToolTips. We will continue to update the program to work with future scripts. Any time I install anything new I make sure to read through all the options. That’s how people like us never deal with things like Mcafee. At work right now but yes I don’t have suggestions, I can find out how when I get home but that’s like 7h from now. Same here. I’ve never seen an ad in W10 and the only apps I’ve ever seen installed are the stock utility ones like groove, calculator, etc.
The only thing I’ve ever seen on the lockscreen is that I have the random pictures thing on and it occasionally asks me if I like the lockscreen picture so it can serve me more like it. I’m using Home Edition, have never seen a single ad. Never turned off the bloatware stuff only thing I did was uninstall apps I didn’t use on first boot.
Are you sure there not just downloaders or if another program could have done it. File Explorer advertises OneDrive. The lockscreen shows various ads depending on your lockscreen settings.
I can hardly complain them for wanting to push their own product, but I wish the ad wouldn’t come back after dismissing it. My issue was there’s actually not a “no” button at all. It’s either “remind me later” or “set up one drive”. That’s the sort of immature question posing I’d expect from my boyfriend if I were a middle school-aged girl. What you just go to settings and turn off the run one drive on startup feature and it never bothers you again.
Also never really noticed ads or bloat ware maybe it’s in the home version or comes with prefab pcs. I did have one drive running in the Taskbar but that took two seconds to shutoff. Lol i just realized how much bloatware there is in windows INB4 people defend this for some ridiculous reason buyer’s remorse? Stockholm syndrome? Totally forgot about this game. Spent many day and nights playing this as a 10 year old on Windows 3. Lol it happens with every release of Windows, excluding Windows Vista.
It comes out, it’s buggy, driver support isn’t there yet, and once time passes people begin to say it’s better, because it is in some ways. Windows from now on will probably have more bloatware with every release as long as it’s also a mobile os I think.
A lot of junk ‘apps’ are installed because they’re common or sponsored with some relation to the mobile platform. Check if your workplace or school gives you access to MSDN. You might be able to get LTSB off of there. Or sign up for DreamSpark I got an ‘Multiple Activation’ key via BizSpark. I run it on my parents computers, siblings, cousins, roommates, and mine.
No piracy. This is includes recommending, suggesting, advising, encouraging, hinting, or in any way implying to someone piracy is a solution or option. It also includes linking to pirated software or tools to pirate software. Similarly, no mentioning OS keys that violate Terms of Service. This includes recommending, suggesting, advising, encouraging, hinting, or in any way implying to that obtaining one of these keys is a solution or option.
ToS violating keys include:. All my non server windows vm’s are LTSB. Any issues running games on this version of the OS? Another poster mentioned this is for ATM’S and medical equipment,so I’m unsure what support would be available if there were any issues with games etc. Sorry if it’s a dumb question. It’s a valid question. I wondered the same thing when I went to install it. But i will leave this section up for reference material, incase anyone is interested, since i went through the trouble to collect the resources anyway.
Open source Virus Scanner if you ever needed to do an ‘offline scan’ or ‘one time scan’ for a sanity check :. It was developed by Cisco and is the default AV used on many Linux based systems. Official site is here if you wish to check it out. On Windows, there are 2 ways to use this.
The first method is quite complex , and requires you to manually download the virus database files. You run the scan via CMD and need to manually edit config files its too much work for most of us. I recommend this. Note that TRON installs Malwarebytes Which i dont recommend – however you can disable it from being installed in the script prior to running. WSUS Offline Updates: Here you can cherry pick and manually download Windows 10 updates, including security updates, without using the windows built-in ‘windows update’.
Many consumer routers are able to be flashed with this custom firmware which will enhance your security although again, you need to configure it, which is a learning process. With BleachBit you can free cache, delete cookies, clear Internet history, shred temporary files, delete logs, and discard junk you didn’t know was there.
Beyond simply deleting files, BleachBit includes advanced features such as shredding files to prevent recovery, wiping free disk space to hide traces of files deleted by other applications, and vacuuming Firefox to make it faster. Better than free, BleachBit is open source. Obviously already mentioned, but will leave it here as a resource also – arguably the best debloating tool you will ever use.
I just want to mention that if you’re not really comfortable without having a ‘proper’ antivirus – feel free to use a third party AV i still dont recommend defender. If i personally had to choose a third party AV, it would probably be Kaspersky Internet Security – based on its actual performance, and not on any other factors although i dont, i do exactly what i mentioned in this guide. Do not use any free AV, as you know, nothing is free in this world – you are usually the product.
All free AV including kaspersky uses cloud based protection. With the paid version of K internet security, you have the option to not enable the KSN kaspersky cloud protection – and you can buy a license cheap from ebay genuine. Also, make sure you’re not protected via cloud – because literally, all of your files metadata like barcodes are known and all of your ‘machine behaviour’ analyzed and you can be profiled.
Depending on who you are, where you are located, and what you do – this can be important to you. You definitely shouldn’t ‘sign in’ to ‘my kaspersky’ and link yourself to their portal. Which proves my point. Maybe you’re a security researcher that found some leaked malware on github, or simply a geek, data hoarder. The AV software may work against you – putting you on a watch list.
You need to find the right balance between privacy and security – it’s not the same for everyone, and you cant have the best of both worlds. To have better security, you need to sacrifice some privacy. To have better privacy, you need to sacrifice some security. In my opinion, and based on my useage of my PC’s, i think i’ve hit the sweet spot with this guide. I know that forum. There are useful things, but I always take binaries with a grain of virtual machines from there.
Also, it’s hard to find a working version of something, because new versions are not marked in tens of pages of comments in a single topic. I also don’t like that they always use shady sites for hosting, like yandex and mediafire, or even mega, and fail to include a hash. Not sure what you are talking about. Not to mention that the files are not linked to other hosting companies. As they are included in the posts!
Unsure if you’re trolling or just posting this due to having bad experiences or being a bad actor. But that site has always been the definitive source of information. It’s just bad experiences. Now I loaded the forum and took a look, and it seems a few things have changed since that. For example the Windows 10 forum category has a few interesting sticky threads or I just don’t remember?
Also, everywhere I look they publish the hashes, maybe I remembered it wrong, or only a few people did it who I don’t find now. On the other hand, they do use external file services. For example, there’s the topic “Windows Editions Reconstruction Project”. There are download links right at the start, first page second post, the links are pointing to cdn. The installers are available on mega. Sorry if I was wrong. Maybe things have changed for the better, or I misremembered, or I was confused a bit, because there’s a lot of information there, and now fire the second time it’s easier to see through.
As it’s the successor to digital river where we could get all of our MS software for years! Dark theme and activation is just a registry edit. That’s how i did it. Dark theme works till now. Activation of windows got reverted tho. About as useful as your statements on the topic. It’s almost as if different people have different experiences.
Linux is ready for my desktop and it has been for many years, YMMV. That’s not my experienced at all. I’ve had a great time using Linux since I switched a few years ago. No arrogance involved, I just really like it and it works for everything I want to do, including gaming. Honest question at what point do you just opt for a Linux distribution and just accept Microsoft products are not privacy oriented?
If you can use Linux, go for it. Some of us need to use programs that aren’t available on Linux. Is it strictly necessary to remove Windows Security Center? I mean what shady stuff does it do to warrent being removed? It can send some files even personal files to MS for ‘examination’ if it suspects it’s malware. Sure they are.
AVG, Avast, Kapersky all have used some form s of user tracking. Some did every single click, website, whatever Avast whereas others injected unique identifiers Kapersky. I would just then say to see previous comment regarding third party AV and how they make Windows less secure. Configure it with a Win10 block list and any other list you want for ad blocking. The interesting part is that you can configure black list to block some domains.
For example even if Firefox on my machine is still configured to send telemetry data to mozilla it will fail because the PiHole is blocking the domain used to send that data. In fact the PiHole will resolve the domain name to an invalid IP which will cause the connection to fail. No connection, no data sent. Since it’s acting as the DNS for your home network every single device computer, tablet, smartphone will benefit from the PiHole filtering system.
No data is sent or received from these domains. Pi-hole is a Linux network-level advertisement and Internet tracker blocking application which acts as a DNS sinkhole and optionally a DHCP server , intended for use on a private network. It is designed for use on embedded devices with network capability, such as the Raspberry Pi, but it can be used on other machines running Linux and cloud implementations. Pi-hole has the ability to block traditional website advertisements as well as advertisements in unconventional places, such as smart TVs and mobile operating system advertisements.
The point is that your queries get sent, and the hidden queries programmed into webpages that users don’t have control over get blocked. I don’t care if youtube knows that I’m watching an upload from Actually Hardcore Overclocking, I mean I’m watching it on youtube and they have to know about it to serve the video in the first place. I don’t think it’s cool if they’re telling facebook and ad delivery networks and data collection crawlers and whoever the hell else about it.
You are free to use any server you want. I did not notice any slowdown since I’m using a PiHole. It’s not really different than using, for example, the DNS on your internet router. If the PiHole has the DNS information in it’s cache it won’t have to forward the request to obtain the information. Either the PiHole already has the info in cache from a past query or it will forward the request to the configured DNS.
It’s like normal DNS. I’ve never used PiHole but have heard about it. I visited the pihole website yesterday to invest and I got the idea that Pi isn’t the best choice anymore. They mentioning something like being ‘stuck’ with the Pi.
Should I choose something else then a Pi? Anyways, yes, there are better alternatives compared to the Raspberry Pi. It also shared this bandwidth with other system components, which slowed them down further.
The Pi 4 doesn’t have this issue and can run considerably more operating systems for example, there is a full version of Ubuntu Desktop compiled for it. Since Pi-Hole is available for multiple platforms and a Docker container, it can be installed on practically anything. Including the computer you’re probably sitting at right now.
Docker runs on everything. Sure, they’re not the best performers out of the bunch, but if you only need a system to run Pi-Hole and maybe a few other services on, they’re more than sufficient. Another thing to consider is power consumption. This is something you have to look up, but Raspberry Pi’s, for the most part, use extremely little power, which will save you a lot of money if you’re in a place that charges a lot for it.
Nevertheless, alternatives to the Raspberry Pi are rampant, with so many to choose from that it can almost be overwhelming. Here’s a good starting list from NextCloudPi , which lists many of the more popular models, such as the Banana Pi. Have a look before you consider a Raspberry Pi, but you probably won’t need to step up to something like this if you’re using the system solely for hosting Pi-Hole and maybe with a few more services as well.
I do get fiber this summer, so I definitely don’t want a bottle neck in that area. So if I go with Pi it would at least have to be the 4, but I heard there were quite some issues with? But I doubt I still have it or that I would be able to find where it is. Also, I’m a newbie in this area as you might already have realized. So maybe starting with a Pi 4 would be good enough for me, upgrading if I want more services in the future or whatever is always an option.
Before posting this I started browsing: I’m now browsing for the prices of a Banana Pi and that’s still quite affordable as well. Does the version make a lot of difference? Could you give me an indication what other kind of services you mean I could run on such device?
I’m not as well-informed about other single board computers like the Banana Pi , but it does have internal storage expansion and gigabit Ethernet which was a bigger deal before the Pi 4 introduced it. There is likely a way to run Pi-Hole in the background, and as long as you’re using an Ethernet connection, you shouldn’t face any major problems unless your CPU or Ethernet bandwidth is being used up by the streaming.
If the Banana Pi has the features you want, go for it!
