Adobe’s monthly fee is just 10 dollars a month which includes both Photoshop and Lightroom. That’s the equivalent of 3 beers at a pub. Not an ridiculous amount of money considering the fact that many people here buy cameras, lenses or computers that costs at least a dollars or more. What’s the difference between the current licensing model and perpetual licensing if you are still interested in purchasing the latest version?
The difference is this: I also have work of mine in other formats music, vector art, more which I have created over the years with a number of software products, some of which I stopped upgrading 15, 20 or even 25 years ago. But I still want to be able to run them from time to time, to access my older work. Thankfully, all of this software still just works when I need it.
I want the same to be true for Photoshop, which is why I still have versions 4 and 7 installed, alongside CS6. If there is something in CC you desperately need then you have to see it as a different product and judge the benefits against price structure just like you would with any other competitor product.
It’s changed and I very much doubt it’s going back. Whether you, I or anyone else for that matter likes it or not it’s their product and they are the ones risking their own money on offering their product this way and judging by the number of subscribers it’s a reasonable price, nobody is holding a gun to their heads!.

I share Brian’s concerns about CC. It’s too expensive, still relies heavily on old implementations, doesn’t get updated all THAT often, and I keep hearing about endless problems with upgrades.
Coming to read these articles and to comment on them is not trolling. Complaining about any or all of this cloud model is not trolling. Then throw the cost of LR on top of that. At the amount I spend every year on CC is around the same amount or less I spent on LR and upgrading it every 18 months, yet I am getting far more for my money. Oh, and why do Adobe products always leave plenty of crap everywhere on my drive such as “AdobePatchFiles”? Why does it seem impossible for Adobe to get us anywhere somewhat remotely close to the speed and memory efficiency of programs like Apple Photos or Affinity Photo? Never knew I could do advanced image manipulation with Apple Photos – oh sorry, you can’t Completely different softwares indeed. And what about Affinity Photo? Consumes as much memory as PS, but works a lot faster and is definitely comparable. Also not really comparable – Affinity does not have advanced tools such as calculations or the option to use apply image for creating very advanced selections from channels.
Affinity designer does look good from the outside, but when you do want to do more complicated tasks its just not up to Photoshop. Photoshop is aimed towards the working professional creative, whereas affinity designer is good for many people who occasionally edit or manipulate an image.
Affinity is lacking features indeed and vice-versa – and I personally haven’t gotten to the bottom of a color management problem I’ve having with it, but do you really think that adding a few more commands to Affinity will make it slow down to a crawl? It’s most unlikely to be related. It’s just a mess. I don’t know – I think you need a new computer as I do not experience the supposed problems you are talking about.
A better performance comparison is between Photoshop and Pixelmator. I wish Adobe would show some pride in their work and optimize their code. Pixelmator not only lacks many of the features in Photoshop, Pixelmator has already been lapped by Affinity Photo in terms of pro features.

Adobe Creative cloud desktop is one of the worst bits of software ever written. Installing and updating is always a problem, which is a big shame as the core software is pretty good. If you are a windows user The best way round is to restart your machine in safe mode with networking press F8 during start up.
Update the creative cloud desktop app, then restart normally and update the programs you want to. I used to when CC first came out but it’s been solid the last year. What’s really messed up, is that you can’t easily uninstall the desktop app if something goes wrong with it.
You also can’t reinstall it from a download if it is not working. On top of that, it will refuse to load and hijacks your Adobe systems if you remove their tracking spyware process that reloads itself even if manually shut down through process explorer.
